There are a lot of these falsely attributed writings that circulate on the internet. There was a famous one a while back of a famous person's supposed commencement speech (Kurt Vonnegut, IIRC), that turned out to be totally fictitious. But it actually wasn't half bad!

My guess is, people who write these things aren't trying to be malicious. They think they have a powerful message, or that they can improve on something someone else has said. But no one would pay attention to their thoughts if published under their own unknown name. So, they attribute their thoughts to someone famous to get wider attention. It's actually a bit sad.

It's also very hard to pull off. Almost no one is skilled enough to convincingly fake another person's writing style (especially an amateur trying to pass his or her words off as those of a skilled professional writer).

These are all serious thoughts worth considering. I know Ben Stein is thoughtful, religious, and conservative, but I read his column every Sunday in the paper and some of this didn't ring true. I checked, and it turns out this email is partly based on comments Ben Stein made on the CBS Sunday show, but also includes a lot of material made up and inserted by someone else. Basically, everything from the Billy Graham paragraph on is not Stein's. Some of it is factually wrong too.

Read the whole story (including the excellent remarks Stein did in fact make) here:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/confessions.asp

Which leads to another interesting question that might be worth discussing: How does your reaction to this piece change (or does it?) with the knowledge that it is partially a hoax?

Go to the site get the latest software installed first, then install the firmware. The instructions are given and it is easy. Once you install the MTEC then you can adust your temps. You can drop them down to zero if you want!! Without the MTEC you will always be stuck at 25 and not have any control. The unit you recieved no doubt came with the latest firmware so all you probably have to do is download and run the software. Make sure you have your USB cable plugged in properly. Facing the motherboard the Red wire would go on the left side. Normally the USB pins are set up for a "double wide" connection to run two USB ports. What you can do is plug your MTEC into the top one and then half of the upper "double wide" into the bottom. That way you will only lose one USB port to the MTEC. If that MTEC USB isn't plugged in correctly when you double click on the desktop icon you will get a NA signal and the fan lights will not turn green. One last thing. When you plug the USB into the MTEC if you are reading it straight on the Red cable of the USB is towards the bottom. Let me know if you need any help. I have gone through alot of practice and have had some great learning experiences with Barry..Speaking of Barry, he is by far one of the most caring and "out of his way to help" reps that I have ever dealt with. He has called me from home late at night and emailed from Europe just to make sure all was going well. That kind of service is what makes it so easy to recommend the company. And his assistant is a chip off the old block!! Great work PG!!

I've always thought the Intel chipsets were more robust than the nvidia ones, especially at higher clock speeds. It's hard to pinpoint, but the nvidia boards have just never felt solid to me. The P45 is one of the best Intel sets of all and the P5Q (DDR2 model) is a strong implementation of it - one of my favorite boards ever.

I am very happy so far. I have to admit the BIOS is a little different to what I am used to (Gigabyte, EVGA), but I am getting there. $.0 was SO EASY on this mobo. If you remember, my EVGA board was very flaky @ 4.0. I have no fear that this baby will be rock solid there. I am now testing how low I can get the vcore and hold 4.0 stable. I just realized this build is the combined recommendations of a lot of RS members. Thanks guys. I love the combination of all these parts.

PG, how are you liking the P5Q so far? I know this is your first venture into the Asus world. I think you will find this to be an excellent platform for the extreme overclocking that your extreme cpu and extreme cooling system demand! :)

Thanks David. I just put the back plate in place and attached the mobo to the mobo tray. It was able to hold itself in place until I added the CPU. No tape required. I do have the MTEC, but it is not mounted yet. I still have some clean up work on the inside of the case. I am just using the CD version of the software. Maybe I will check out the website for an update. I still have the coolant temp @ 25C, but that might change.
